Making photographs: 20 months
I am getting better at making photographs that look good straight from the camera. An unedited look at Roo’s room on an average day – no tidying up the room, no post-processing the photos:

In that last picture he is shutting the door on me. He is growing up fast.
Adorable! Mine shut the door on me all the time nowadays, so that they can play “in secret” (for whatever value of secrecy that includes screaming gales of laughter that come through the door quite clearly). Amazing how they grow like that, you blink and they’ve developed one more new skill.
Hi! I found your blog through researching Montessori floor beds. We JUST moved our 17 month old to a crib mattress on the floor because was climbing out and falling to the floor. It’s going well – still very much in a transition period with sleep, though. I had a question about that beautiful small wardrobe. Does Roo still use this? Do you think he’ll use it for years to come? I’m contemplating having someone build one for us! It’s so nice and functional for our son to take ownership of his clothing, getting dressed, etc. Would love to know your thoughts before I spend lots of $$. We recently moved from Brooklyn to just outside of Philadelphia so we’re also doing some minor, inexpensive redesigning in our new apartment. Thanks so much, Alana :)
Hi :) Roo does still use his wardrobe. He doesn’t interact with it much as I still choose his clothes – we have given him the option of doing this and he just isn’t interested. But he does know where his dirty clothes go & put those away, and he can fetch his socks and shoes when asked. I still think he will keep using this until he is four or five and his clothes don’t fit anymore. Perhaps even longer. My Dad made the wardrobe and it was a relatively easy task so it shouldn’t cost too much to get made, I would hope. Just a box with a few dividing boards and a hanging rod. Ours is made from pine. Dad has some experience with woodwork but he isn’t a pro. I just gave him a picture of the discontinued Ikea wardrobe that I wanted and this one looks nearly exactly the same. Good luck with all your redesigning!
Thank you for the reply!! Would you be able to give me the dimensions – tall, deep, wide? I’m going to either ask a local person to make it or a family member. Has Roo ever tried to pull it down or climb it? Hoping it can sit sturdily and we don’t have to screw to the wall. I’m also hoping it can sit in front of an outlet that we use for a white noise machine and air conditioner in summer. Really appreciate your help. Are you still practicing Montessori principles with Roo? He is absolutely adorable, by the way!
Hi Alana,
The dimensions of the wardrobe are:
width 94 cm
depth 44cm
height 91 cm
In these posts are the pictures I sent to my dad:

Thanks so much!! Looking forward to removing the large, looming dresser with rolling drawers from his space. :)
I’m pregnant with twins and am researching how I want to setup their rooms (floor beds have won already) and wanted to thank you for your great blog as you shared your child growing up and the changes that you made to make it more beneficial to you both. Keep up the good work :D
